Adopt an Older Pet

We are currently looking for anyone interested in fostering or volunteering with any of the rescued small pets.

the foster home will have to be in or near the Buffalo (Cheektowaga),  New York area.  And the person or persons will need to know basic care of the particular species interested in fostering.  We can help educate though.

Life Long Tails will pay for any vet costs.

please e-mail us or call us if you wish to become a foster home or volunteer

This is Jasmine jasmine was an emergency call that we responded to.  We picked her up, a very skinny, unhealthy girl.  She went to see our vet ASAP but there wasn't anything medically found wrong with her.  She was given fluids, syringe fed fluids, and syringe fed food and critical care for over a month ( By us) because she wasn't drinking or eating anything on her own.  Finally she just started eating and drinking out of the blue, she gained a lot of weight.  And after a couple months where I knew she was doing well, she was adopted by my Mom.  And she has been a healthy piggy ever since and looks bigger every time I see her.

Pinkie the pretty girl Pinkie was brought to us because her owner couldn't keep her anymore due to allergies.  She had a lot of missing fur and our vet diagnosed her with seborrhea, an oily condition of the skin.  With regular bathing her condition improved and fur came back in.  She then went into foster care to await the day she'd be adopted.  But then her foster Mom let us know that Pinkie became ill, her breathing became labored and she had some diahrrea.  She was rushed to the vet ASAP and we learned she had a grade 3 heart murmur and fluid surrounding her heart, she was dianosed with heart disease.   She was prescribed meds, Baytril and Lasix, and she has become so much better on the meds :)  Now, she more than likely always need to be on the lasix and she'll stay in her foster home for her remaining life.  Foster Mom and I are afraid that the stress from moving to a new home may cause a relapse.  We hope that Pinkie will stay feeling better and that she'll have a happy, long life ahead of her.
  Bonnie the glider

One day, we received an urgent phone call.  A sugar glider had been ill for many months, her eye and face had swelled up and she couldn't even open up her eye anymore.  She was then surrendered along with her bonded partner, Clyde.  Bonnie's condition was very difficult to look at, it was apparent she was in pain and needed medical help as soon as possible.  I was able to get her in to see Dr.Tomaschke the next day.  The swelling was from an infected abscess, Dr.T "lanced" and drained all the pungent puss out, ew.  I am sure she already felt better after that.  Her eye also had been perforated, a tiny hole could be seen within it, and a white covering circled the eye.  Although the eye was okay and intact, Dr.T told me her eye would never look the same and her vision from it would be limited or non existant.  She was on an antibiotic called Clavamox and an eye ointment for three weeks.  Each day she looked better, and finally she was able to keep her eye open.  Yes, her eye remained cloudy and she was more than likely blind in that eye, she was no longer ill or in pain, she recovered completely!Smile She was then adopted with Clyde, and she is happy.  She gives her new Mom face hugs!

This picture was taken while she was still recovering and I was giving her medicine.
