Our Mission Statement
Life Long Tails is a non-profit, all volunteer organization, dedicated to rescuing small exotic pets and placing them into forever homes. Our primary goal is to rescue guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits, mice, rats, degus, ferrets, chinchillas, hedgehogs, sugar gliders, reptiles, and birds. We specialize in the care of disabled and/or special needs animals. We will also provide hospice for elderly pets, providing them comfort and love for their remaining life. We are a no-kill rescue; euthanasia will only be utilized upon veterinarian recommendation due to terminal illness and/or suffering. We will collaborate with local shelters, rescues, and veterinarians. All rescued animals will receive proper veterinary care. It is anticipated that with proper care and socialization, we will be able to place the majority of our rescued animals into new forever homes. To this end, we will educate new owners about the proper care for their pets and advise what veterinary services are available.
We are a home based rescue, this means we house the rescues within our home. We also have a foster home network, many of the rescues are fostered in homes all around the Western NY area. All rescues are seen by our veterinarian prior to being placed up for adoption. Anyone ill, injured or in need or treatment will receive it. We also have all male sugar gliders and rabbits spayed and neutered. We mainly go to Seneca Animal Hospital in East Aurora and we see either Dr.Tomaschke or Dr.Fijas. They are wonderful vets and their staff is fanastic! All rescues receive proper diet, housing, water, toys, enrichment and of course TLC. Through Petfinder and our adoption process, all rescues find loving homes. Once in a while a rescue may stay with us, they may not find their home, so they stay here within our family, or they have major health issues needing our attention and specialization. No matter what, each individual rescue is unique in our eyes, and deserving of happiness and love I do realize that this web site isn't fancy or all that interesting to look at. Honesty, I confess, I am completely lost when it comes to computers. Husband, Ray, helps out where he can. All I wanted for this web site was somewhere to place our information and who we are. I hope I succeeded there. For those of you that are disappointed and looking for more glamor, I apologize. Our time is best spent with the animals. I'd need to research and read many books before I could create a web site as nice as what I have seen. And then the time spent making that site.... nope, I prefer to be with the animals, caring for them , loving them, making their days brighter until they are happily home Also, both my husband and I, as well as our board members, do work full time jobs along with maintaining the rescue. I would like nothing more than to go part time or quit so I can rescue full time.. but the truth of the matter is, we need the income. Without our jobs we could no long pay our mortgage, bills, and pay for many of the supplies that still comes out of our pocket for the rescues. If we seem difficult to reach it is because our schedules are very busy and hectic. When I get home from work my number one priority is to check on and care for the animals, they will always be top on the list for me. Please be patient and stick with us on what we want to do for the little ones. It never hurts to keep trying us by phone and e-mail, just keep at it and be persistant, we will get back to you. I apologize if it is not immediate and ask for your understanding.
